The recalled mowers were manufactured by Briggs & Stratton and sold under the brands Snapper, Simplicity, and Massey Ferguson from August 2016 thru January 2018 for between $1,500 and $13,000, according to a CPSC Recall Notice issued March 20.
The problem is that the reverse-mow option switch on affected models can malfunction and cause the mowers to unintentionally mow when being driven in reverse, posing a risk of injury to bystanders, CPSC said.
Affected models were sold in red/black or orange/black color combinations with the brand name logo printed on the hood. Click on the link above for a full list of model and serial numbers affected by the recall.
Consumers who purchased a riding mower affected by the recall should stop using it immediately and contact Briggs & Stratton to schedule a free repair.
To date, no injuries or other incidents have been associated with the recall, CPSC said.
